How to Set Up a Montessori Toy Shelf and Rotation

How we write: we have not run hands-on product tests. These guides explain what to look for at each stage and why, so you can judge any toy yourself. We never publish invented prices, ratings, or reviews; check the retailer for current details.

You don't need to buy much. A low shelf with 6–10 items, each in its own spot, invites focus. Swap a few items out every week or two based on what your child is working on.

What to look for

  • Put items at the child's eye level, in trays or baskets.
  • Keep extras stored away and out of sight.
  • Rotate based on interest, not the calendar.
  • Remove anything broken or with loose parts right away.
